Outcome of Kidsdoor's
effort to cut chain
Worried about the future and cried, but eventually chose the way to make dream come true
She came to our class every week over 4 years starting from 3rd grade in Junior High. She lived with her mother suffering from illness. Although her dream was to become a childcare-giver, she once chose to work after high school as her mother recommended. She couldn't actively choose her future due to the fear to borrow scholarship and worry about her mother. She was crying. Kidsdoor staff and volunteer repeatedly sat down with her and at times invited her mother to the conversation.
On the summer when she was 3rd grade of high school, we found job posting that allows working in factory and learning in childcare college for 3 years. With this finding, she could convey her dream to her mother and was able to convince. She passed the job entrance exam also.
Repeated a year but we never gave up
She was coming to Tadazemi when she was 3rd grade of junior high. After going to high school she didn't come for a while. When she eventually came,it revealed that she will repeat a year as her attendance rate was low. She lived far from the school and so she missed the train she gave up to go to class and hanged out with her friend. She started to study at S-living as she didn't want to fail again, but after a while she stopped coming as she hanged out with her friend. We patiently continued dealing with her. After final exam she told us with a smile, "I passed all exams!" Eventually she was able to step up to next grade.
After drop-out from high school, aiming for graduate certification
She did not hate to study. But she quitted at 1st year of high school because she couldn't buid good relationship with others and felt so hard to go to school. In the beginning she did a lot of part time jobs as she believed "things will be ok", but she started to feel anxious as time goes by. She decided to get certificate of high school graduation but going to prep school was financially demanding. She found Kidsdoor HP and came to our class. At first she showed anxiety to speak with our staff but she gradually opened up to staff and children at her generation, and became able to focus on studying. This year she partially passed. Toward next year she is aiming to pass tests on all subjects.
Found dream through speaking with our staff
When she quitted high school, her school teacher recommended Re-find. In the beginning she didn't have things she wanted to do and was wondering what to do in the future. But through having meals with staff and talking in Re-find she gradually found what she wanted to do. "Actually I had something I wanted to do but am not sure if I can do it.." she hesitantly spoke about her dream. We believe it's so valuable that children themselves think through and say "this is the way I chose" instead of adults insisting children to have certain future goals. In Re-find, we are telling children the importance of "live with their own choice and their sense of values".
Her mother was against going to university. With staffs' support, entered university and got Eiken Pre-1.
She used to go to regular high school but she could not adapt well and transferred to part time high school. She was studying so hard but her relationship with her mother wasn't good and the mother was against her going to university. It was hard to stay motivated as she couldn't afford going to prep school and students around her wasn't going to university. Her environment largely changed after going to Gachizemi. Her academic ability has grown so much upon volunteers' support and competing with her friends. Eventually she obtained Eiken Pre-1 and entered Aoyama Gakuin University.
Came to Gachizemi as couldn't go to prep school due to fathers' illness
He started coming to Gachizemi as it revealed his father had cancer and due to medical cost, he could no longer go to prep school. In the beginning he was quiet and the grade wasn't so good. But his grade gradually imroved while coming to Gachizemi every week. Recently he's very open to teachers and speaks about his concerns also. He passed exams for Meiji Gakuin university and Nanzan University.
He overcame shyness and passed the exam!
"He wants to go to university but it's hard to study by himself", his mother strongly encouraged to use Sakura Prep School. He came to class every week while doing part time job once a week, but he was shy in the beginning and didn't actively ask questions. But he loved Japanese history and on that topic he spoke so passionately, and he gradually built frank relationship with volunteers. In Autumn, he started to consult specifically, "which university should I choose"? and with recommendation of staff and volunteer he started to use another Kidsdoor program "1655 Study cafe" in Edogawa. By studying 2-3 times every week in "Sakura Prep School" and "1655 Study Cafe", he could prepare for university entrance thoroughly. He practiced interview and had personal statement reviewed over and over, which lead to passing university he wished to go to. We cannot forget how he happily, a bit shyly told us that he passed. Even afterwards he's passionate and studying bookkeeping, saying "I will study ahead for university"
Want to become cabin attendant! Studying and preparing passionately
She has been using "Sakura-juku" since junior high time. As "Sakura-juku" provided many opportunities to think about dreams and futures, at "Sakura Prep School", since beginning she is saying "I want to go to university which is strong at foreign languages and become CA" as her strength is English. She's so eager to know about what kind of university exist, entrance exam and studying abroad. Every time she catches volunteers and staff during spare time and enthusiastically ask questions and talks about her dream.
Aiming to become clinical psychologist upon seeing her grandmother being upset due to grandfathers' death
When she was 3rd grade of high school Shisho-Gausha opened. She was thinking to study nursing but came to us saying "I can't write reason for application". Upon discussing she realized, although it was recommended from her parents and teacher it wasn't her true feelings. She saw her grandmother being upset due to grandfathers' death in earthquake and wanted to help people in distress. She decided to aim for clinical psychologist, prepared so hard and passed university. In rulal areas there are less information for children to think about their futures. In her case people told her "Nursing is stable job" "You fit to nursing job" but she didn't have chance to think about her future by her own. Reality is that information gap leads to education gap in rural areas. We strongly feel needs to provide information for students to think about their futures.
Knowing about free study support, came to Shizugawa high school
When she was 3rd grade of junior high he participated in high school preparation class at Shisho-gakusha. She initially wanted to go to high-ranked school outside of town but got to know about Shisho-gakusha and entered to Shizugawa high school. He said "there are limited ways of transportation to attend school out of town. If I asked my mom to drive for me it eats up time and money so I decided to study at Shisho-gakusha". She was in single-mother family where the income was low, and used to do housekeepings a lot. For her, it was very important to have a place where she could concentrate on studying without worrying about the cost. She is interested in international contribution and aiming to brush up English skills. Her current goal is Eiken grade pre-2 and preparing so hard for the interview while studying for school exams also.
